Fading Couples was inspired by Jimmy Nelson's project - Before they pass away - a search and documentation of indigenous cultures that are rapidly disappearing or losing their traditions.

 

Browsing through his photographs I started liking the idea of drawing their unique features, clothes and specific adornments. Then came the idea of "pairing" them in couples, in order to capture more of their traditional garments and jewelry.

 

And although I kept this exterior, ornamental part as faithful to the photos as I could, I did allow myself to play with the faces and especially the expression of the eyes. I had my fun, but learned a lot too.
